Connected infrastructure engineered for speed and resilience.
The Dell PowerEdge R760xs is a modern 2U enterprise rack server designed for virtualization, cloud infrastructure, databases, enterprise applications, high-capacity storage, backup, hosting and data-center workloads.
This particular barebone configuration features 8 × 3.5-inch LFF front hot-swap SAS/SATA drive bays, providing an excellent platform for customers who want to build a high-capacity storage server using enterprise SAS or SATA HDDs and SSDs.
The front of this PowerEdge R760xs provides 8 × 3.5-inch SAS/SATA hot-swap drive bays. The LFF configuration is particularly suitable for large-capacity enterprise hard drives used in file servers, backup systems, storage servers and RAID arrays.
Dell officially supports an 8 × 3.5-inch SAS/SATA backplane configuration for the PowerEdge R760xs.
The PowerEdge R760xs supports up to two Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Dell supports compatible 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 32 cores per processor and 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores per processor.
This dual-socket architecture provides substantial processing capability for virtualization, databases, cloud services, enterprise applications and multi-threaded workloads.
The R760xs provides 16 DDR5 DIMM slots and uses registered ECC DDR5 server memory. Memory speed and maximum supported capacity depend on processor generation, DIMM capacity and memory population configuration.
Compared with previous-generation DDR4 PowerEdge platforms, the DDR5 architecture provides significantly higher memory bandwidth for modern enterprise workloads.
The PowerEdge R760xs is based on Intel's C741 platform and is designed around modern Intel Xeon Scalable processors, DDR5 memory and PCI Express connectivity.
The R760xs supports several Dell enterprise storage controllers depending on configuration, including:
The exact RAID/HBA controller included with a barebone server should be specified separately according to the physical configuration supplied.
The 8 × 3.5-inch backplane supports compatible SAS and SATA HDD/SSD storage. This makes the server suitable for both high-capacity mechanical HDD arrays and enterprise solid-state storage configurations.
The eight 3.5-inch bays make the R760xs particularly attractive for storage-focused applications. High-capacity enterprise SAS or SATA HDDs can be installed to create large RAID arrays for backup, file storage, virtualization data, surveillance archives and enterprise applications.
The R760xs platform supports Dell's Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem (BOSS-N1), which can use two M.2 NVMe SSDs in hardware RAID 1. This allows operating-system boot storage to be separated from the primary front drive array when the appropriate BOSS-N1 hardware is installed.
The PowerEdge R760xs incorporates Dell iDRAC9 with Lifecycle Controller technology for remote monitoring, system configuration, firmware management and troubleshooting. Available functionality depends on the installed iDRAC license.
The R760xs supports two redundant hot-plug power supply units. The exact PSU wattage and efficiency rating depend on the configuration supplied with the server and should be specified separately in the product package.
The R760xs supports OCP 3.0 network adapters, allowing the server to be configured with suitable enterprise Ethernet interfaces according to the required network speed and port configuration.
